Mt. Vernon is home to several notable things to see and do when you are in the community. The Hall of Honor and Military Museum is a must-see destination, and theater lovers might enjoy a night out at the Cedarhurst Center for the Arts. Outdoor recreation is available at locations like the Mount Vernon State Game Farm and Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park, and if you need athletic accessories for your day outside, consider stopping at Rend Lake Sporting Goods or Dunham’s Sporting Goods. Mt. Vernon experiences four distinct seasons throughout the year, so residents will need to invest in both home heating and cooling systems. During the summer, conditions are hot and humid, and there are many days in which high temperatures surpass 90 degrees. Not only will a central air conditioning unit keep residents comfortable throughout these months, but a properly serviced unit can also improve the quality of life for allergy sufferers by improving indoor air quality.

Winters in Mt. Vernon tend to be cold, with average high temperatures in January reaching about 40 degrees. While snowfall is minimal in the area, this cold weather can be dangerous on its own. For that reason, it is recommended that residents of this city have their units professionally serviced during the autumn months to ensure they will operate properly when needed.
